How Palytt taste matching works
Palytt uses your taste profile and your own dish verdicts to find dishes that fit you. When it has enough evidence, a 0–100 Bao badge shows the match and Pal adds a short reason. The score describes taste fit, not a measured probability of enjoyment. An Order Guide also shows friends’ ratings when they’re available.
Open a restaurant’s Order Guide to see what to get, what to add on, and what is simply popular there. Palytt keeps those signals separate so you can judge each suggestion.

What is taste matching?
Taste matching connects your preferences and verdicts to individual dishes. Your saves, posts and the dishes you would order again help Palytt learn your palate. In an Order Guide, a match score appears only when it has a basis in your taste.
Curious how you eat? Find your Palytt pal. Take the free 11-question quiz for a playful four-letter food personality plus a flavor letter. It does not change your dish match scores.
You can also find your food taste profile by comparing dishes you would order again. Use those patterns when reading an unfamiliar menu, then let your dish verdicts sharpen future picks in Palytt.

What taste matching is not
- A popularity label is not a personal score. When Palytt lacks enough taste evidence, it says Popular here.
- Friends’ ratings are shown as friends’ opinions, separate from your own Bao match score.
- A restaurant review average cannot tell you which dish fits your palate.

Anyone choosing from a menu, saving dishes for a later visit, or planning a meal with friends. The match score helps you choose a dish; a room helps your group choose a place.

Which app recommends dishes based on my taste?
Palytt recommends dishes using your taste profile and your own dish history. In its iPhone and iPad app, an Order Guide can show a 0–100 personal match score when there is enough taste evidence. Friends' verdicts and crowd popularity are separate signals, and dish information varies by restaurant.
What is the difference between a taste profile and a food personality quiz?
Your in-app taste profile and dish history can inform personal recommendations. The free food personality quiz summarizes your answers as a four-letter type, a flavor letter and a reading about meal preferences. The quiz is for fun. It does not change dish match scores or predict whether you will enjoy a particular dish.
When does a dish get a match score?
A dish gets a 0–100 match score when Palytt has a basis in your own taste profile and verdicts. When it only has crowd signals, the Order Guide labels the dish Popular here instead.
Is a match score the chance I will like a dish?
No. A 0–100 match score expresses how well the available dish information fits your taste signals. A score of 92 is not a measured 92% probability that you will enjoy the dish. Read the reason and your own past verdicts before choosing; a new preparation or restaurant can change the experience.
What if Palytt has little information about a restaurant?
An Order Guide may have too little dish information to make a useful recommendation. You can scan a readable menu or paste its text to see recognized dishes; your taste history can add context when it relates to an item. A menu alone does not establish your preferences or guarantee a personal match score.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Follow the in-app onboarding after installing from the App Store to set up your taste profile.
Does it work for groups?
Yes. Rooms let a group compare places and vote, while each person's dish picks remain tied to their own taste. See our guide to deciding where to eat with friends.
